Praia, June 27 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Culture and Creative Industries (MCIC), Abraão Vicente said Monday that Cidade Velha, as a World Heritage Site, has not been appreciated in terms of budgeting into the State Budget (OE) for its recovery.
“As soon as the Cidade Velha was classified as a World Heritage Site there should be an amount in the OE for its preservation and improvement”, defended the official today in the context of the 8th anniversary commemorations of the elevation of the Cidade Velha to World Heritage.
According to the minister, “planning has been lacking over the years in order to realize the Cidade Velha as a State matter and not the MCIC and the Cultural Heritage Institute.”
The minister said that the MCIC has already presented to the Prime minister and the Minister of Finance “concrete projects” for the recovery of some historical heritage of Cidade Velha, namely the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Convent of St. Francis.
