Beijing, 04 Sep (Inforpress) – The Chinese President Xi Jinping will not participate in the G20 summit in India, being replaced by Prime Minister Li Qiang, Chinese diplomacy announced today, in a period of renewed tensions between Beijing and New Delhi.
A notice posted on the Chinese Foreign Ministry website states: “At the invitation of the government of the Republic of India, the Premier Minister of the State Council Li Qiang will participate in the 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi in India, on September 9th and 10th”.
Relations between China and India have deteriorated in recent years due to the border dispute that in 2020 resulted in a violent clash between troops from the two countries. The clashes resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers.
The two countries also have trade disputes. Beijing is still suspicious of the growing strategic ties between India and the United States.
