Chess: Master Mariano Ortega is already in second victory at the African Championships in Lagos, Nigeria

Praia, Sep 20 (Inforpress) – International chess master Mariano Ortega, Cabo Verde’s representative at the 2022 African Individual Chess Championships in Lagos, Nigeria, won Monday afternoon Nigerian Odion Aikhoje, also an international master, achieving his second victory.

The information is announced by the Cabo Verdean Chess Federation, on its Facebook page, indicating that despite being on time since moves 20, Master Ortega, champion of Cabo Verde in Chess, managed to impose himself on his opponent, to achieve his second victory, in the second round of the African Continental Championship 2022.

On Sunday, Mariano Ortega made his African debut in this competition with a victory against also host Joy Idara Emmanuel.

The 2022 African Individual Chess Championships are played from 18 to 27 this month in the Swiss partnership system with nine rounds and has 75 registered players, including four great masters (GM), 10 international masters (IM), eight FIDE masters (FM) and five masters candidates (CM), representing 27 countries of the continent.
