Chess: Mariano Ortega revalidates African title of zone 4.2 in Ivory Coast

Praia, Mar 30 (Inforpress) – The Cape Verdean international chess master, Mariano Ortega, was crowned, this Thursday, the African champion of zone 4.2 in Dimbokro (Ivory Coast), one day away from the end of the proof, by adding victories to the eight matches played.

The competition, which has been taking place since last Saturday in Ivory Coast, will only end this Friday 31, with the 9th and final round, but the Cape Verdean champion of this modality has already managed to revalidate the title (won last year in Togo) in the penultimate round.

To Inforpress, the president of the Cabo Verdean Chess Federation expressed his joy for the achievement, claiming that it is another feat for the sport and for Cabo Verde, maintaining that Mariano Ortega has been walking his class in Dimbokro.

Francisco Carapinha explained to Inforpress that the two victories recorded today, the first in the morning against an opponent from Ivory Coast and this afternoon against a competitor from Liberia, dictated the revalidation of the title to Cape Verde.
