Chess: Mariano Ortega defeats David Mirulla and renews Cabo Verde champion title

Mindelo, Nov 22 (Inforpress) – The Spanish Mariano Ortega won on Sunday night, the 21st, at Mindelo, against the Italian David Mirulla and won the title of national absolute chess champion, in individual category, with a total of nine points.

The chess master, who defends the Sports Organization of Ribeira Funda, Sal, renewed the title achieved in 2020, in the match in which he had as opponent David Mirulla, Clube Sportivo Mindelense, São Vicente, and with whom he shared the same eight points, before playing against each other.

The two-time champion finished the race, which was staged by the city of Mindelo, winning every game and with nine possible points.

The president of the Cabo Verdean Chess Federation (FCX), Francisco Carapinha, admitted to Inforpress to have been an “excellent championship” and with a “very competitive” pace, which for the first time had ten participants and all with world ranking.
