Praia, Feb 7 (Inforpress) – The National Strategy to prevent and combat money laundering, terrorist financing and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in Cape Verde was approved this Monday, at a meeting of the interministerial commission that ratified the operational plan.
According to the president of the Interministerial Commission for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, Manuel Lima, this strategy emerged following the last assessment carried out in the country in 2019 and which pointed out some aspects considered less successful in terms of money laundering.
“We have issues related to the national strategy itself, as well as a number of aspects related to improving efficiency in terms of sharing information, control and supervision in terms of money laundering”, he explained.
Manuel Lima added that in view of the recommendations of the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), the FATF, a previous exercise was carried out with the various players, and all entities involved in this matter, which culminated today with the approval of the national strategy as well as the operational plan.
