CAN’2024: Cape Verde faces Liberia in the absolute debut of the “creoles” in a CAN competition

Praia, Sep 22 (Inforpress) – The Cape Verdean women’s national football team will play its first ever match for the biggest showcase in African football today, by hosting its counterpart from Liberia in a preliminary qualifying match for CAN’2024.

In the match, scheduled to start at 4pm, at the National Stadium in Achada de São Filipe, in the City of Praia, the women’s team will once again compete on the biggest stage in Cape Verdean sport five years after its first appearance, in a friendly with its similar one from Guinea-Bissau.

This time, the players of Silvéria “Nita” Nédio return to the National Stadium to face the Liberians in the start of a double-header for entry into the group stage of the African Nations Championship, CAN’2024, to be held in Morocco.

A match already considered “historic” by both the women’s national team coach Nita Nédio and the captain Varsénia da Luz, who urged the public to come out en masse for the game, arguing that “the moment is historic both for the national team and for the fans, public and supporters”.
