Praia, Jan 11 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verdean Joseph Martial Ribeiro was appointed new deputy director-general of the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the West African region, by the president of that institution, as part of the replacement of regional directors.
The announcement, made by the president and posted on the ADB website, highlights that the change in the leaders of the regional offices is the first major reform since Akinwumi Adesina was re-elected president of the bank at the end of last year, with unanimity by the shareholders.
These appointments serve, according to the AfDB, to prepare the bank’s involvement in the recovery of post-pandemic African economies.
“Joseph has successfully managed to represent the bank in three Portuguese-speaking countries, in addition to being an accomplished professional with great political experience and management skills,” said Adesina, for whom the experience and knowledge of public development projects- on the ground by Cabo Verdeans will contribute enormously to the success of the Bank’s operations in West Africa”.
