Praia, Apr 30 (Inforpress) – “Relations between Cabo Verde and the United States of America: Two Hundred Years Later” is the theme of a conference scheduled for this Tuesday, 10, in Fogo Island, which will gather politicians, diplomats and academics from Cabo Verde and North America.
Promoted by the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV) in partnership with the Embassy of the United States of America and the City Hall of São Filipe, the conference is part of the activities commemorating the 200 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries established in 1818 with the opening of the first American consulate mission in sub-Saharan Africa.
The event, which will take place at the Padre Pio Gottin auditorium in the City of São Filipe, will bring together eminent Cabo Verdean and US academics, local and national political figures, diplomats, Cabo Verdeans in the US and residents to discuss relations between the two countries, diplomatic relations that were reinforced after 1975 with the independence of the archipelago.
According to information provided by Uni-CV, during these years the two countries developed strong and unprecedented relationships in trade, education, security and people-to-people exchanges, with the United States still in the front line during the fight against slavery and also contributed through food security programs during droughts and famines that hit the archipelago.
