City of Praia, Sep 26th (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde will ratify, “in the near future”, the protocol of the Charter of Human Rights for people with disabilities, assured today, in the City of Praia, the Minister of Family, Inclusion and Social Development, Fernando Elísio Freire.
The guarantee was given in statements to the press, after a meeting with the West African Regional Group of the Pan-African Parliament, which is visiting Cabo Verde with the aim of advocating with national authorities for the signing and ratification of some legal instruments of the African Union.
Despite the non-ratification of this protocol, the government official recalled that “through actions”, Cape Verde has already done much more than the Charter provides, highlighting the exemption of the tuition fees for people with disabilities from basic education to university studies.
He also highlighted the exemption of moderate health fees and the revision of the labor code, with the aim of facilitating access to the labor market for people with disabilities and making them increasingly autonomous citizens with greater levels of freedom and autonomy.
