Praia, Mar 12 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde wants to promote the participation of Japanese companies in the Special Maritime Economic Zone of São Vicente (ZEEM-SV) and transform the country into a maritime and logistics platform in the Atlantic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities announced Thursday.

The idea was expressed Thursday by Rui Figueiredo Soares, this morning, in the City of Praia, after the signing of the Agreement for Exchange of Notes between Cabo Verde and Japan, referring to the postponement for one year of the payment of the Cabo Verde’s debt service, budgeted at 67 million escudos.

The agreement is part of the Debt Suspension Initiative, approved in 2020 by the G20 and endorsed by the creditor nations members of the Paris Club, through the Memorandum of Understanding on the treatment of Cabo Verde’s debt service, signed on 12 August 2020, “to help” the country “in   the fight against the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic”.

The ruler reiterated the wishes of recognition of the Japanese Government and people for the expression of solidarity shown with Cabo Verde, but also for the commitment has been shown through the financing of various actions in cross-cutting sectors of the Cabo Verdean economy.
