Praia, May 5 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Education reaffirmed Cabo Verde’s commitment to strengthen its diplomacy to “revive” the use of the Portuguese language in sub-regional organizations, especially in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Amadeu Cruz launched this commitment during his speech at the opening of the ‘online’ lecture under the theme “Promotion of the use of the Portuguese Language in Sub-Regional Organizations” promoted in the context of a cycle of debates alusing the theme “Promotion and dissemination of the Portuguese language: global strategies and national policies” by the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP), to celebrate the “Portuguese Language and Culture Day in the CPLP”.
“I would like to reaffirm our country’s commitment to strengthen its diplomacy in order to revive the use of the Portuguese language in sub-regional organizations, particularly in ECOWAS, as part of this organization, but also as a way to provide a better integration of Portuguese-speaking countries in this sub-region, namely Guinea-Bissau, Cabo Verde and Equatorial Guinea itself so that we can provide a better integration of our peoples in the dynamics arising from the development of our sub-region” he stressed.
Also in his statements, the governor said that the Ministry of Education wants to strengthen the teaching of the Portuguese language in basic and secondary education, but also in pre-school education, aiming dissemination and more common use of the Portuguese language in Cabo Verde as a vehicle for the transmission of knowledge, knowledge production, culture and science.
