Cabo Verde presents the proposal to extend the special partnership with the UE in Brussels

Praia, July 7 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde presents Monday the proposal to extend the special partnership with the European Union (UE) with the introduction of new areas, and the EU ambassador says he believes in “deepening” of this partnership.

José Manuel Pinto Teixeira gave this information to the press on the sidelines of the  European Film Festival opening in Cabo Verde, held during the 10-year celebrations of the UE/Cabo Verde Special Partnership, as well as 25 years of UE / PALOP – East Timor.

The President of the Republic had already suggested the introduction of another pillar in the special partnership between Cabo Verde and the European Union, namely the investment, growth and employment pillar.

The proposal that the Government has been negotiating with the UE to extend the special partnership agreement to other areas of intervention and cooperation, for its part, has introduced sectors such as “investment, growth and job creation, issues of ocean management and maritime economics and institutional reforms.”

Asked if he thinks that Cabo Verde has a chance to extend the special partnership with the European Union, Ambassador José Manuel Pinto Teixeira replied: “I am convinced that yes, because it is a process that we have been working since the beginning since the year, it is assured that there will be enlargement in new areas of this Special Partnership. ”
