Cabo Verde negotiates with the EU to strengthen and extend the Special Partnership, Government


Praia, June 28 (Inforpress) – The Government is negotiating with the European Union to strengthen and extend the Special Partnership between the European Union and Cabo Verde with a view to introducing new pillars in a process aimed at boosting national development.

This information was revealed today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities, Luís Filipe Tavares, at Praia City, during the opening day of the presentation of the projects approved in the first call of MAC 2014/2020 (Madeira, Azores and Canaries) in the amount total of 126 million and 500 thousand euros.

The head of Cabo Verdean diplomacy says that this program plans to strengthen research and technological development and innovation (a sector considered strategic for the country’s development), to improve the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises and to promote the adaptation of climate change to prevention of risk management.

The objectives of Cabo Verde in the MAC 2014/20, conservation and protection of the environment, as another important and strategic axis for the country’s development, as well as the strengthening of the institutional capacity and efficiency of the public administration, as fundamental for the improvement of the business environment in this cooperation.

The minister assures that the ongoing contacts with EU member States are very positive and the Government intends to be much more integrated in the Macaronesia and neighboring countries of the African region in the coming years and with a much broader and much stronger partnership with the EU, in a process which, he says, will leverage Cabo Verde’s development.
