Praia, Sep 9 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde expressed its concern over political situation in the Republic of Guinea-Conakry following the coup led this weekend by Lieutenant Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, head of the Special Forces.
This concern was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rui Figueiredo Soares, at the Virtual Extraordinary session of the ECOWAS Conference of Heads of State and Government on the political situation in the Republic of Guinea and the Republic of Mali, in which he participated in the replacement of the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca.
Rui Figueiredo stressed the implications of Guinea’s situation on the political stability in the entire sub-region, arguing that political issues should be resolved in a framework of political dialogue, marked by constitutional rules and principles.
“Therefore, and considering the information presented by the President of the Commission to the Conference, we join our voice to the vehement condemnation of the use of force to assume power in the Republic of Guinea, against the country’s Constitution and in flagrant violation of the Additional Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance,” he said.
