Cabo Verde and China foresee signing of a new Defense Agreement in 2018


Praia, Nov 9 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde and China are expected to sign a new defense agreement in 2018, according to Foreign Minister and Defense Minister Luís Filipe Tavares, who is visiting China.

Speaking to Inforpress, Luís Filipe Tavares said that he will have a dinner with his Chinese counterpart, Chang Wanquan, at the Ministry of Defense in Beijing, at which time the two leaders will discuss technical-military cooperation between the two countries and renewal of the existing Defense Agreement since 2012.

“It is expected that the signing of the new Defense Agreement between the two countries will take place in 2018 in Praia City,” he said, noting that cooperation between the two countries in the defense area includes training of Cabo Verdean soldiers in the Chinese academies, supplies of uniforms and supplies for the military.

Minister Luís Filipe Tavares will also bring the guarantee of Chinese funding for the acquisition of modern military uniforms and equipment for the Cabo Verdean military.
