Brava to host Morna Research Center – announces the Cultural Heritage Institute

Praia, Dec 4 (Inforpress) – Brava Island, more precisely the Eugénio Tavares’ House, will host the Morna Research Center, as part of the Requalification, Rehabilitation and Accessibility Program (PRRA), informed the president of the Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC).

Hamilton Jair Fernandes was speaking today in remarks to the press at the end of a round table on “Life and Work of B.Leza (Francisco Xavier da Cruz), patron of the National Day of Morna, held by the IPC and the Cabo Society of Authors (SOCA), at the University of Cabo Verde, in the city of Praia.

“There is work to be done in the space where the Eugénio Tavares Museum is housed, which will be transformed into the Eugénio Tavares Museum House, a little linked to the memory of the figure and the patron of the National Day of Culture and in that same space will house the Research Center linked to morna,” he said.

The rehabilitation of the building, he said, already has funding and are currently waiting to negotiate the consignment contract and proceed with the rehabilitation of the building.

Since the morna is part of the identity of the Cabo Verdean people and to do justice to the islands that had a weight in the candidacy of morna, reported that other islands such as Santiago, Sao Vicente, Sao Nicolau (Tarrafal) and Boa Vista will also host research centers on morna, which will involve researchers, academics and civil society.
