Sal Rei, 08 Jun (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister considered in Boa Vista that the intervention in the refurbishment of the Duque de Bragança Fort is part of the cultural policy set out since 2017 by the Government to restore, rehabilitate and reclassify the country’s historical and religious heritage.
Ulisses Correia e Silva was speaking on Wednesday 7th at the opening ceremony of the requalification and rehabilitation project of the historic building Forte Duque de Bragança, located on the islet in the city of Sal Rei, built in 1820 to protect Boa Vista.
The Head of the Government highlighted the importance of this type of intervention, since countries that allow their heritage to degrade “do not value their history and identity”, because, he considered that besides the economic value this type of heritage has “a strong symbolic value” of the course and history of the Nation and the transmission of values for the future.
“This heritage has an important touristic value because it is a central point to visit the island, and at the same time it is pleasant because to get here you have to cross the sea for a short time, which increases the possibility of having more visitors, and this will have an added value for the population and for the local and national territory,” he stressed, recognising the partnership with the City Council of Boa Vista.
