Sal Rei, Jun 17 (Inforpress) – The Boa Vista Turtle Project has delivered, in the city of Sal Rei, six kits to fishermen, materials to allow these professionals to assist in the collection of information about sea turtles in the Boa Vista island.
Francisco Mendonça, coordinator of the project’s community development program, said the materials and equipment were obtained as part of a funding package through a U.S. government program using U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) funds.
The coordinator said the idea is that with the offer the equipment will help fishermen in their work, but will also assist them in the collaboration of data collection on the protection of sea turtles.
This is because in the kits there is a GPS through which, along the work, each time they can see a turtle at sea sends information to a department at the central level where will be treated and analyzed the data of the circuit of circulation and behavior of sea turtles in the Boa Vista island, he explained.
