Sal Rei, May 5 (Inforpress) – The Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister for Youth and Sport, Carlos Monteiro, called on the City Halls to create and or reactivate the municipal youth councils.
“We have been since 2019 insisting to the City Halls create and / or reactivate the municipal youth councils”, said Carlos Monteiro in his speech in the opening of the IV National Meeting of Councilors for Sport and Youth, which began this Wednesday and takes place until Saturday, the 7th, on the Boa Vista island.
At the time, the Minister told the mayors that the event takes place at a challenging time, due to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, with social and economic impacts, so he considers that the sports and youth sectors are essential to overcome these crises successfully.
The creation of the municipal youth councils will respond, according to the Deputy Minister, to one of the demands and criticisms in relation to political power, “a closer approximation” of young people to policy makers and decision-makers, and which is included in the last recommendation out of the National Youth Forum 2021, which took place in São Nicolau.
