Sal Rei, April 27 (Inforpress) – The mayor of Boa Vista said today that the island is calling for more and better partnerships and called on the government and cooperation partners to help establish development on a subsidiarity pact with solidity and sustainability for the island.
Claudio Mendonça made this appeal during the opening speech of the International Partners Conference, which takes place for two days on the island of Boa Vista, expressing satisfaction and gratitude for the island to host the Partners Conference.
“Boa Vista is the third largest island in the archipelago, it is one of the least densely populated, although endowed with immense development resources, supported by tourism. The island needs and calls for more and better partnerships to help establish its development with solidity and sustainability,” he said.
However, the mayor admitted that Boa Vista may lack essential public infrastructure and basic services, and that despite being far behind in terms of recovery, the island hosted around 21% of tourists who visited Cape Verde in 2022, still well below absolute and relative numbers prior to the pandemic.
