BCV suspends fees on interbank transactions and advises clients to go to banks just in cases of extreme need

Mindelo, May 7 (Inforpress) – Banco de Cabo Verde suspended fees on interbank transactions and advised customers to go to banks only for “matters of extreme need”, to avoid “agglomeration of people” may involve “contagion risks with the new coronavirus”.

Through a statement sent to Inforpress, the BCV recalled that it had already urged the financial institutions, which it supervised, to adopt a set of measures for their functioning to avoid agglomerations.

However, according to the Central Bank, despite its recommendations and public health authorities, “there have been agglomerations in front of the banks”, which has caused “concern and numerous complaints” because of the “potential risk of contagion” this attitude represents.

“Not even the recent extension of the bank’s opening hours to the public until 3 pm uninterruptedly had the desired effect, with large agglomerations in front of bank branches, as before,” said BCV, asking commercial banks to advise its clients to use digital channels to carry out operations in the light of guidelines for social distance and preventive isolation.
