Praia, Nov 26 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde’s basketball team beat Nigeria 79-71 in group A game of the African World Cup qualifying for the 2023 World Cup, in a game played at the Acacia Scacia Pavilion in Angola.
Cabo Verde’s victory over Nigeria has already been praised by Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, directly from the parliamentary session, where he congratulated Cabo Verde and the national team on the “brilliant victory”.
According to statistics, the Blue Sharks, the name by which the national team of Cabo Verde is known, lost the first quarter of the game 18-20, won the second 16-15, was defeated in the third period 17-20, so the victory in the fourth and final period 28-16 was decisive for the Creole triumph.
Cabo Verdean winger Anderson Correia was the game’s top scorer with 15 points, with Ike Diogu with 13, being the top scorer for Nigeria’s squad but baseman Jef Xavier was the MVP, (most valuable player) with 14 points, four rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
