Animal Health: Cabo Verde free from Foot and Mouth Disease and Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia – FAO

Praia, Sep 20 (Inforpress) – The Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Cabo Verde said Monday in the Cidade Velha that the country is free from Foot and Mouth Disease and Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia.

Ana Touza gave this assurance at the opening session of the the 8th Annual Regional Animal Health Network for the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), which takes place from Monday until Friday, 19-23 September, 2022, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago.

“In Cabo Verde, the animal health situation is privileged, since the country is free from Foot and Mouth Disease and Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia,” Ana Touza said.

However, she said that in West Africa animal husbandry has contributed about 35 percent (%) of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with 85 percent of rural families in Cabo Verde engaged in animal husbandry in their homes.
