AfroBasket 2021: Cabo Verde beats Uganda (79-71) and pass to semi-finals with Tunisia

Praia, Sept 3 (Inforpress) – The Cabo Verdean basketball team qualified on Thursday for the semi-finals of the 30th edition of AfroBasket, beating Uganda 79-71 in the quarter-finals at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda and will play for the final with Tunisia.

In this clash with the Ugandans, Cabo Verde was always in the “top position” because it had virtually the entire game controlled, which is proven by the quarters of 24-20, 19-15, 18-16 and 18-20, despite the resistance of the Ugandans.

The ‘giant’ Edy Walter Tavares was considered by FIBA basketball the MVP (most valuable player) for contributing to this Cabo Verdean victory with 23 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, one steal and five blocks.

It is the third victory of Emanuel “Mané” Trovoada’s squad in four games, as the Cabo Verdean team had defeated Angola and Rwanda’s hosts 71-77 and 74-82 in the group stage, while against Congo it had his only defeat (70-66) in this final stage of AfroBasket 2021.
