Praia, Jun 18 (Inforpress) – The Association for the Defense of the Environment and Development (ADAD) started Wednesday with the planting of fruit trees for the creation of a community garden in Porteto, which will benefit families from that location.
This action was carried out by ADAD to celebrate the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, which is observed on June 17 and, in statements to press the president of the association, Januário Nascimento, said that the project to create the community garden will serve as experience in the future perspective of supplying the market in the municipality of Praia.
“We are here to create a community garden, but it is not just for fruit trees, but also for experimenting with planting species that best adapt to the climate in Cabo Verde. And this garden will help with food security, which is a major problem in the world today,” he said.
This official defended the importance of planting more and more trees to serve the future of the planet, feeding communities and combat erosion, stating that “more consistent” policies are needed in the mobilization of resources to combat desertification.
