ACRIDES receives 340 thousand dollars from the U.S. Embassy to fund projects to support children

Praia, Oct 21 (Inforpress) – The Association for Disadvantaged Children (ACRIDES) has received funding of 340 thousand dollars from the U.S. Embassy, along with the Government, for the installation of an overflow room to record statements in the courts for children victims of sexual violence.

In a statement to Inforpress, the president of Acrides, Lourença Tavares said that in addition to this amount, the institution also received from the NGO ECPAT, around 152.555 euros for two and a half years of project in the field of prevention and fight against sexual abuse and exploitation, a contribution that “will strengthen” the mechanisms of child protection systems, she underlined,.

Lourença Tavares explained that the aid from the USA came beacuse Acrides is beneficiary of the exchange programme with the right to submit projects for funding, under which the “Child Friendly Justice” project was presented, taking into account all cases of child sexual assault the final sentence applied by justice to aggressors is Statement of Identity and Residence” (TIR).

In overflow room, explained the person responsible, the child will be heard only once, and for the entire course of the process the recording will be heard.
