Achieving a minimum parity of 40% in municipalities will be a path for the next elections – Lúcia Passos

Praia, Sep 3 (Inforpress) – The president of the Network of Women Parliamentarians, Lúcia Passos, said today that achieving minimum parity of 40 percent (%) in the lists for the 2020 municipalities will be the way to guarantee equality in upcoming legislative elections.

Lúcia Passos spoke to Inforpress after a meeting with the president of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV – opposition party), Janira Hopffer Almada, held in Praia.

This official also highlighted the work has been done by the partners, in order to guarantee equality between the sexes in the political sphere and decision-making.

“We will always follow this path with the expectation that we will always be able to do better in the sense that there is a balance in the distribution of powers between men and women, both in terms of political participation, but also in terms of decision-making,” she assured.

Lúcia Passos also said that she believes that it is necessary to carry out a work of educating society for a paradigm shift, of the mentality in terms of promoting gender equality so that it can leave a legacy for the next generations.
