2021 Boa Vista Turtle project campaign surpasses previous records with 156.631 sea turtle nests

Sal Rei, Dec 3 (Inforpress) – Figures from the Boa Vista Turtle Project (PTBV) indicate that this year’s campaign, which ran from May to November, registered 156.299 sea turtle nests on the island’s beaches, a harvest that surpasses the previous seasons.

These data were reported to Inforpress by the Boa Vista Turtle Project, funded by the MAVA Foundation and is implemented by several sea turtle conservation organizations in Boa Vista Island.

The PTBV’s scientific coordinator, Leila Almeida, highlighted the value of the season to demonstrate the work done in the conservation of sea turtles, while also highlighting the results achieved in training and scientific studies at the national level, with the support of international researchers to better know the species.

“Compared to last year, we are with a record increase of about 30.000, where there were 125.000 nests across the Boa Vista Island,” she said, noting that this year “surpassed records” in previous seasons.
