Praia, Jan 31 (Inforpress) – Four thousand and fifty dogs were dewormed and castrated during the campaign organized by the Bons Amigos Association in partnership with the City Hall of the City of Praia, from December 3 to 27 this month.
The information was advanced by the councilman for Environment and Sanitation, António Lopes da Silva, during a press conference, where he explained that this initiative is the result of an agreement of cooperation signed between the two entities aiming at ethical and human control of the growing canine population existing in the country’s capital.
According to the councilor, the City Hall and the Bons Amigos Association are working on a strategy of castration and deworming of dogs, but also raise awareness among population about the importance of caring for and treating animals.
António Lopes da Silva said that the first phase of the campaign took place in the northern part of the city, covering the neighborhoods of Achada Grande Frente e Trás, Achada Mato, Castelão, Lém Ferreira, Paiol, Coqueiro and Jamaica. In the total of 5.157 dogs assisted, 1.619 were castrated, 2.430 dewormed, 1.045 registered with earring and 63 received specific surgeries.
